5 Takeaways From NFL Championship Sunday

NFC Championship

Luck still can’t figure out the Patriots

Sunday offered two scenarios for Luck — 1) he could continue to add to his legacy by lifting his Colts over the Patriots in Foxboro and get to the Super Bowl in just his third season behind the wheel, or 2) he would fall to 0-4 against the Patriots in his career.

Obviously, the latter occurred.

Luck completed only 12 of his 33 pass attempts, a 36.3 completion rate, which is the lowest mark by a quarterback with at least 30 attempts in a playoff game since Trent Dilfer’s 30.6 completion percentage back in 1997 with the Buccaneers, according to ESPN Stats & Info.

Luck struggled trying to throw downfield with a 3-of-17 mark and a pick on passes thrown five or more yards. He was 2-of-13 when targeting his wide receivers.

What’s more, New England only blitzed Luck twice. Though he was not sacked, Luck felt pressure on 47 percent of his drop-backs, the highest single-game percentage of his career. He completed 4-of-15 passes under pressure.
