Vontae Davis, CB, Indianapolis Colts; Kyle Fuller, CB, Chicago Bears
For all the talk about Richard Sherman, Patrick Peterson and Joe Haden being the best cornerbacks in the league, Davis’ 2014 season should put him right there among the NFL’s elite.
Davis has two interceptions and a forced fumble this season, but more importantly he’s ascending to Pro Football Focus’ No. 3 overall corner through the first two months of the season. The Colts’ defense has been single-handedly transformed due to his shutdown coverage, allowing only 42.2 percent of throws his direction to be completed.
Fuller started his rookie season off as fast as he could have, with a handful of forced turnovers and a quick frontrunner in the Defensive Rookie of the Year race. A little past the midway point in the year, he has three interceptions and three forced fumbles, and is one of the few bright spots on Chicago’s dismal defense.
A broken hand and hip pointers plagued Fuller in Week 7, but when healthy he’s already proven to be one of the better young corners in the game. He might also be the only Bears representative in the Pro Bowl.
