4. Rams, Dolphins with surprising wins
After heading to the fourth quarter tied at 10-all, the Rams forced 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick to fumble at the goal-line with two seconds remaining before kicking a game-winning field goal to upset San Francisco 13-10. The win completely shakes up the NFC West playoff race, as with a win the defending Super Bowl champs Seattle overtook the 49ers for second place in the division behind the 7-1 Cardinals.
And give credit where credit is due. The Niners beat the Rams 31-17 in St. Louis on Monday night on Oct. 13, and the Rams returned the favor, giving San Francisco a home loss this time around.
The Dolphins shut out the reeling Chargers, 37-0, winning their third straight game on Sunday while handing San Diego a third straight loss. Ryan Tannehill threw for 288 yards and three touchdowns while the Miami defense picked off Philip Rivers three times and sacked him another four in the lopsided win.
We expected the Dolphins to vie for a Wild Card spot in the AFC, but didn’t think the team was up for a challenge this grand. It might prove to be the nail in the coffin for the Bolts. With the win, Miami leapfrogs San Diego in the AFC Wild Card race.
