Notre Dame QB Everett Golson – The selection of Golson as a top-5 candidate won’t be popular with some but he’s the QB of an unbeaten and borderline top-5 Fighting Irish team and he is 15-1 as a starter in South Bend. If you think for a moment that doesn’t mean anything to a great number of voters around the country you’re fooling yourself. Golson has 13 TD passes and three interceptions this season and one very important last-minute comeback. He threw a 23-yard TD pass with about a minute to go to lead the Irish to a 17-14 victory over Stanford. The play coming on 4th-and-11 against the No. 1 defense in FBS doesn’t hurt him either. Golson should have the opportunity to pad his stats against North Carolina this week, the Tar Heels allowed 70 points to East Carolina, and then if he has a big game in a prime time showdown in Tallahassee the following week the buzz will really start to build.
