XN Sports Heisman Watch: Todd Gurley Runs to Top of the List

Todd Gurley

Darkhorse Candidates: This space figured to be a weekly writeup for BYU QB Taysom Hill but it was not to be and the hope is Hill comes back healthy in 2015. For our new dark horse favorite let’s turn our attention to Washington State QB Connor Halliday who is slinging it all over the place in coach Mike Leach’s offense. Halliday set a new FBS passing record Saturday night with 734 yards against Cal, which the Cougars lost, 60-59. David Klinger set the previous record of 716 yards in a 1990 game played in Tokyo against Arizona State. Louisville DB Gerod Holliman has seven interceptions in six games and has returned one pick for a TD. Colorado WR Nelson Spruce, a junior, leads the nation with 10 TD receptions and is fifth in receiving yards per game at 122.0.
