With the preseason officially getting underway Sunday, the clock begins to tick for some NFL coaches whose job security is certainly in jeopardy.
Whether the success — or lack thereof — is the fault of these coaches remains to be seen. But here is the XN Sports’ ranking of coaches who are on the hot seat in 2014 and essentially coaching for their jobs.
1. Joe Philbin
Philbin salvaged his job after agreeing to replace his offensive coordinator, Mike Sherman, with Bill Lazor. But an improvement will be needed in Miami in order for Philbin to keep his job again in 2015.
Miami has been 7-9 and 8-8 the last two years under Philbin, but it seems almost unrealistic that the team will much much better this season. Both the Jets and Patriots look like playoff teams, but a critical step forward by Ryan Tannehill may be the difference between a .500 campaign and Philbin getting the axe.
