New Jersey Devils at New York Islanders
New Jersey has a really soft schedule down the stretch – eight of their final nine games are against non-playoff teams – and that starts tonight on the Island.
The trap ‘em Devils are back, at least temporarily, as the team has allowed an average of 25 shots on goal against over their last four games. In those games, they are outshooting their opponents by just a half goal per game and are tied in goals scored. So they aren’t outplaying opponents like they were earlier in the season. In DFS terms, this team is quite “blah” right now.
The Islanders allowed two or fewer goals for the first time in nine games their last time out, a game they still managed to lose 3-2 in a shootout. They have allowed 21 goals against in their last seven games though, and three goals against per game is a pretty rough mark for any team. They kind of remind me of the Panthers right now; they are playing the puck-possession game reasonably well but there isn’t enough talent on the team to win with any consistency.
The first game of this month for both teams was against each other and a 6-1 win for the Devils. In fact, the Devils have scored 11 goals against the team in three games while the Islanders have scored just five. There are enough cheap options on the Devils because of how they’ve played lately that they can be a good secondary stack in GPPs to help make room for more expensive players in other games. I would even be tempted with Cory Schneider in net.
