Montreal Canadiens at Florida Panthers
The Habs have won six out of their last seven games and because the way the points have worked out, it seems like all that’s left to play for is which team between them and Tampa Bay will get home ice in the playoffs. The team isn’t playing lights out hockey, but they are winning the possession battles in games more often than not, so that’s a very good sign for them. The top line of Max Pacrioretty/David Desharnais/Thomas Vanek is riding a pretty high shooting rate over their last few games, so as I usually advocate, never walk away from a heater.
Florida hasn’t scored more than two goals in a game in five straight games (in fact, they have just five total goals in those games). They have zero power play goals in their last six games, five power play goals against in those games, and also found out that defenseman Tom Gilbert will miss the rest of the season with sports hernia surgery. This is all to say, they are a bad team right now.
I don’t normally stack road teams but the Panthers are on a slide, the Habs are rolling, and Florida is starting Dan Ellis and not Roberto Luongo tonight. I wouldn’t outright stack them, but David Desharnais with one of Pacioretty or Vanek seems like a good, GPP play.
