Detroit Red Wings at Columbus Blue Jackets
Detroit’s miraculous run for a playoff spot continues as they’ve taken nine of a possible twelve points in their last six games. Part of the surge has been thanks to the power play, as their units have gone 5-for-18 in their last five games (27.8-percent). Another big reason for the resurgence has been Gustav Nyquist, as the talented young winger has seven goals in the team’s last five games (shooting 41.2-percent along the way, mind you). The last piece to the puzzle is goaltender Jimmy Howard. The Olympic goaltender has had some stellar games in half of his last six outings.
Columbus is in a fierce battle for one of the last two playoff spots and the team is starting to stumble a bit. With a 2-3-1 record in their last six games, scoring just nine goals in those games. The power play has been beyond pathetic, going 0-for-35 since March 6th. The only player really keeping this team afloat right now is goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky as he’s put up a .929 save percentage in the month of March. In fact, Bobrovsky has a .929 save percentage since January 1st. It’s been a remarkable season again for the netminder.
This might be the biggest game of the night as both teams are fighting each other for a playoff spot. The teams have each won a home game against each other this year but there has been only eight total goals scored in those two games. I would lean Columbus in this one (and thus, Bobrovsky) but I’m not a big fan of many skaters from either side in this one.
