Buffalo Sabres at Montreal Canadiens
Buffalo has gone completely in the tank with a 2-9-0 record in the month of March and are on pace to be one of the lowest-scoring teams in the history of the NHL. To make matters worse, they might be getting worse: In two of their last three games, the Sabres have managed fewer than 20 shots on goal (both losses). Getting the start in net will be Matt Hackett and the journeyman goalie was actually in net for the team’s win against Vancouver.
Montreal played last night in Boston, a 2-1 shootout win for the Habs. Montreal is having a bad time with penalties lately as they’ve given up 16 power play opportunities against in their last three games. On the bright side of things for the Habs, they let starting goalie Carey Price have the night off last night so he should be well-rested for tonight’s game.
This is the fourth game this year between the two teams and the Habs have taken all three so far. The total score in those three games was 8-3, so that gives us a pretty good indication of what to expect tonight. The Habs beat the Sabres 2-0 on the second game of a back to back a couple of weeks ago, and it should be about the same tonight. Price isn’t a bad play in net, but I’d rather avoid the skaters that aren’t overly cheap.
