New York Islanders at Carolina Hurricanes
The Islanders just keep playing decent hockey despite every reason not to. Since the Olympic break, the team is 5-5-1 and has had a positive possession mark in every game. While 5-5-1 might not seem impressive, they were 22-30-8 before that so the winning percentage has improved markedly. The competition they’ve faced hasn’t been spectacular, but the consistency has been remarkable given their conditions. They may be without Kyle Okposo tonight as the talented forward has missed the last two morning practices for the team. If that is the case, their prospects for tonight are looking a little grim.
Carolina has been playing some so-so hockey of late, going 5-5-0 in their last 10 games. They’ve looked very good some nights and absolutely awful some others. This kind of wild inconsistency is very bad for DFS, particularly for 50/50 or heads-up matches. They do provide the type of variance necessary for success in GPP games though.
One guy that has been a stud for Carolina in the second half is Alex Semin. The uber-talented winger has 16 goals in 30 games in 2014. He has been held goalless in three games against the Islanders this year though.
The Islanders have lost all three games to the Hurricanes this year and they have scored just five goals in those three games. I don’t like relying on Carolina, but they have enough variance to make a good GPP stack target tonight.
