Calgary Flames at Edmonton Oilers
Calgary was at home last night to Nashville and lost 6-5 in a game that featured just 51 shots on goal. The result was that rookie goalie Joni Ortio was sent back down to the AHL while it was announced that Karri Ramo would return from his knee injury. That game was pretty out of character for the Flames as it was the first time since January 28th that the team has allowed more than three goals against. Michael Cammalleri chipped in two goals and an assist to keep his hot streak going while defenseman Kris Russell managed three points of his own.
Edmonton has managed a 5-3-2 record in the month of March, though they did lose their last game out 3-1 to the Buffalo Sabres. Jordan Eberle missed the last game but was practicing yesterday with the team so he should be considered a game time decision for now. Without Eberle, this team is essentially a one-line team and that’s never good for any team playing anyone else.
This is the fifth meeting between these two rivals this year and the home team has won all of the previous four meetings this year. Of bigger note is that the four games have produced just 14 total goals and the last three games have produced just eight total goals. Ben Scrivens is usually a difference-maker for the Oilers in net so he would make a good play for a GPP goalie, but Viktor Fasth would as well if he gets the nod. Other than that, I will be avoiding most skaters in this game completely.
