New York Rangers at Ottawa Senators
I did a podcast last night with fellow XN Sports writer Chris Wassel and he raised a pretty good point with the Rangers: they might be stuffing the shot clock on opposing teams but it doesn’t seem like they are generating a ton of scoring chances. Considering the quality of their top nine forwards, this is very surprising. The team has managed just 20 goals in nine games this month and that’s very bad for DFS players. The power play hasn’t been that great either as they have just a 14.3-percent efficiency through the month of March.
Ottawa has played themselves out of a potential playoff spot with five losses in their last six games, including losses to Edmonton, Calgary and that collapse against Montreal. I have almost no confidence in this team to keep the puck out of their own net at the moment, with the 37 goals in their last nine games as evidence of this. In those nine games, the team has given up ten power play goals against and have given up at least one in every one of those games except last Monday in Nashville.
These two teams met back in January in Ottawa and the result was a 4-1 win for the Rangers. That seems like an appropriate estimate for this game. If DFS players are feeling a bit lucky, Henrik Lundqvist might not be a bad play in net tonight. I will also be looking at different cheap options among the Rangers skaters to help fit in some other big game stacks for my GPPs.
