Calgary Flames at Dallas Stars
Calgary blew out Anaheim in their last game 7-2 but that was an aberration and not something of a turnaround. What the team has been doing well, as anyone who regularly reads this column would know, is limiting chances and limiting shots on their goalie. For the tenth time in their last 12 games, the Flames held their opponents to under 30 shots against when they played Anaheim. This has led to their 6-6-0 record in those games, or .500 hockey. That’s not bad for a team that has been a doormat for much of the last two years.
Dallas rebounded from the literal collapse of Rich Peverley on Monday night when their game was cancelled to manage a 3-2 overtime in St. Louis the following night. All things told, it was one of the more memorable moments of this season. From a DFS standpoint, Valeri Nichushkin rejoined the top line with Peverley out of the lineup. It’s nothing to get overly excited about – he did lose time down the stretch of that game to Ray Whitney and Ryan Garbutt – but it certainly makes him a lot more DFS-relevant than he was even a week ago. Even though goaltender Kari Lehtonen is back skating after a concussion, it’ll still be Tim Thomas in net.
This is the third game this year between these two teams and Dallas has won both of the earlier match-ups by a total score of 12-4. Calgary has been very good of late but even teams on streaks have letdowns and this seems like a good time for one. I would stack the top Dallas line in some GPPs and may even use Tim Thomas in those as well.
