New York Rangers at Winnipeg Jets
The Rangers offense has gone a bit cold of late with just 11 goals in their last five games and a single goal in back to back losses. Those five games saw 10 goals against and a perfect penalty kill record, so the defense and goaltending has been there. As has been the case at times this year, the offense just can’t find the back of the net and the dip in shooting percentage is costing them points. We’re still waiting for the Richards/St. Louis/Hagelin line to really get going, too, as they’ve played pretty well in their games together but haven’t been able to find the back of the net with any regularity.
With three points and no wins in their last five games, it seems the Jets have played themselves right out of a playoff spot with under 20 games to go for the third time in three years. It seems like Ondrej Pavelec’s magic has finally run out as he’s posted a .902 save percentage in his last four games, returning to form from the past several seasons. It’s really tough to bet on this team in any sense right now considering they’re averaging two goals for and over three goals against in their last five games and seem to be spiralling into irrelevance.
The Rangers playing back-to-back games on the road would seem to be a coin flip for this team: They have played two such games this year and one was a 7-1 win over the Leafs and the other was a 9-2 loss to the Sharks. I don’t really want to rely on either goaltender tonight so I will just be picking a player or two from either side from my 50/50s and leaving the goaltenders alone.
