Edmonton Oilers at Detroit Red Wings
Most Vegas lines aren’t open for this game but Betfair has the Oilers paying out three-to-one on the moneyline so it’s easy to see what the books think of Edmonton. Not that it’s unwarranted: Edmonton got shelled last night in St. Louis 6-2 and back-to-back nights on the road isn’t easy for any team. The Oilers are 0-4-2 in the second game of back-to-back scenarios on the road this year. The silver lining in those six games is that their goal differential was only minus-8. While they will probably lose tonight, prior history tells us they probably won’t lose by more than two goals. So there’s that.
To be sure, Detroit has a pile of injuries they are currently battling. This has forced the deck chairs to be shuffled a bit and Riley Sheahan is now centering Gustav Nyquist and Tomas Tatar. This has forced Daniel Alfredsson down to the third line and out of DFS relevance until his price plummets.
Detroit has lost four of their last five games and have allowed 18 goals against in those contests. Those games have seen the power play be very good (25-percent), as with the penalty kill (92.9-percent), but the even strength save percentage has been awful. It’s tough to win games when goalies are giving them away.
The Oilers already have a 5-0 loss to this Detroit team but that was back in November. With Ben Scrivens starting last night for Edmonton I would assume it’s Viktor Fasth in net tonight. Detroit will come away with this one but I’m not sure they fill the net. A mini-stack of a couple Wings players in GPPs would be the recommended course here.
