Vancouver Canucks at Washington Capitals
Vancouver rebounded from their blow up against the Islanders on Monday night with a 3-2 shootout win in Winnipeg on Wednesday night. The bigger news of that game was Ryan Kesler leaving after the second period with a knee injury. The latest news that came down is that Kesler will be unavailable at least through this weekend, reducing the Canucks to essentially one forward line. One bright spot is that Alex Burrows scored a goal on Wednesday (two in fact), his first regular season goal in almost 11 months. It could be a floodgate thing for him, so he may be a decent value play going forward.
Washington has lost five of its last six games and they are not finding the back of the net; this team has five goals in their last four games and two of those came on the power play. They have also allowed seven power play goals against in their last eight games, putting up an abysmal 72-percent penalty kill efficiency since the Sochi Olympics. A guess one positive out of all this is that the team has allowed 34-plus shots on goal in six of those eight games, so if they ever do win, it should be a big DFS night for whoever they decide to start in net that game.
Vancouver took a 3-2 win against the Capitals in a game back in October but I’m not sure how much of that applies to now. This game probably won’t be as lopsided as it appears on the surface, but the injuries that Vancouver is going through might be too much for tonight. Whoever gets the start for Washington is a bit of a gamble but I will be taking a few of their skaters for 50/50s.
