Los Angeles Kings at Calgary Flames
The Kings have won all six games since the Sochi Olympics and have allowed just nine goals against in those games. Over their last couple of games, they have outshot their opposition 91-45 and outscored those teams 7-3. On top of that, the power play has converted in four straight games (25-percent efficiency). They’ve also already played this Calgary team since the break and that was a 2-0 win in Los Angeles the first Thursday after the Olympics. These are a bunch of stats to tell you that the Kings have been absolutely dominant over the last two weeks.
Calgary is playing better hockey of late, having gone 3-3 since the break and allowing just 12 goals against in those six games. The penalty kill has also only given up one goal in their 15 chances in those six games. Not only is the PK rolling along at a great rate right now, they’re not giving up many chances per game anyway. They’ve also scored nine goals in their last three games so they’re finding the back of the net with some sort of regularity now. Whether it lasts remains to be seen.
This should be another low-scoring game like the last one. The Kings are 3-5-0 in eight games where they’ve played back-to-back on the road, the exact situation they find themselves in tonight (one of those wins was that game against Calgary). I won’t be taking very many players from either side in this one but if you’re looking for a cheap option in net for GPPs, Calgary goalie Joni Ortio isn’t a bad play.
