Winnipeg Jets at Colorado Avalanche
After a really good stretch of games after Paul Maurice was hired as coach, the Jets have now lost three straight games and two of them were to teams they should beat (Islanders, Senators). The team defense has been pitiful of late, having given up an average of 35 shots on goal in their last four games. An injury to Mark Scheifele has moved Olli Jokinen and Dustin Byfuglien onto the second line with Evander Kane and reduced this team to what it has been for year: a two-line team.
Colorado had been on a roll with four straight wins before a 2-1 loss against St. Louis on Saturday night. Like most power play units, theirs can be streaky and after a stretch that saw seven PP goals in four games, they have gone goalless in back to back contests. Goaltender Semyon Varlamov has been pretty good of late, though, posting a .930 save percentage in his last three games (seven goals against). Of note is that Andre Benoit is back to running the top power play unit after Nick Holden saw a stint there recently. Should the PP get back rolling, Benoit makes a solid value play.
This game is a complete toss-up. All three games this year between the two teams have been one-goal games and were 2-1, 3-2, and 4-3 finals. That ranges all the way from DFS futility to DFS gold. I will be picking a couple higher-priced players from Colorado for my 50/50 games but won’t be taking either goalie or stacking either side tonight.
