Montreal Canadiens at San Jose Sharks
With a win, the Habs have a chance of four points in four games on the California trip and that wouldn’t be too shabby. They are getting outplayed by the competition they’ve faced but their goaltending has been enough of a difference to keep them in these games. Newly-acquired Thomas Vanek had his moments in his first game wearing the CH and should get loads of power play time. This is still a team that gets their teeth kicked in possession-wise on a regular basis though and that doesn’t bode well for tonight.
The Sharks have seven out of 10 points coming off the break but have deserved more than that. This is a team that has been flying for several games now and there’s no reason to think they will stop now. Brent Burns has started to catch fire lately and is more than deserving of a look in DFS. As it stands though, Antti Niemi is to be avoided as a goaltending option. His play of late just isn’t deserving of your money risk.
These two teams met in Montreal back in October and San Jose skated away with a 2-0 win. I expect them to smother the Habs tonight and it could result in a lot of goals against for Montreal goaltender Peter Budaj. Stacking the top line of Joe Thornton, Brent Burns and Joe Pavelski is a good option for GPPs tonight. Not only are they rolling at even strength, but Thornton and Pavelski are getting pretty much every full power play now, Pittsburgh-style. There is a lot of value here for San Jose tonight.
