Minnesota Wild at Dallas Stars
This will be the first game for the Wild to show off their deadline acquisition in Matt Moulson. For now, he’ll slot on the second line with Mikko Koivu, not a bad place to be. The Wild have won all three of their games since Sochi and have given up just three goals against in the process. Minnesota also got Ilya Bryzgalov at the deadline so keep an eye on who starts; Darcy Kuemper has been very good for them in net in the absence of Josh Harding. Bryzgalov is a much bigger question mark at his point.
Dallas has alternated wins and losses since the break and blew out Vancouver in their last game. For the most part, they’ve been winning the shots on goal battle in their games so they should be able to start stringing wins together here soon. The biggest change in their lineup the last few days has been relegating Valeri Nichushkin to the fourth line and promoting Rich Peverley to the Tyler Seguin line. For DFS purposes, this kills Nichushkin’s value and boosts Peverley big time. The power play has come to life of late as well as they have converted four of their last 14 chances.
These are the two teams currently occupying a wild card spot in the West and they are very evenly-matched; the season series is split 1-1 each with the goal totals falling at 6-4 in favor of Minnesota. I don’t expect an uber-high scoring game in this one so I would avoid either team in a stack. There are players to pick at – particularly on the Dallas power play – and whoever starts for Dallas might not be a bad GPP play.
