Columbus Blue Jackets at Nashville Predators
The Jackets got shelled in their last game, losing 6-1 to the Blackhawks on Thursday night. That makes 17 goals against for this team in their five games coming off from Sochi, a number that this team doesn’t have the talent to recover from. They have also been outshot in their last two games by a total of 23, both to Western Conference teams (Chicago, Dallas). In short, this team doesn’t seem to have the same momentum they had before the Olympics and aren’t to be trusted right now for a stack.
Nashville has lost three games in a row but have only given up eight goals in those games. In other words, these are the Predators everyone remembers. The team isn’t giving up many shots on goal lately (or getting many either) so the team defense is on point, just not the scoring. A big part of the Predators’ success is their power play that is top-10 in the NHL this year. That said, they are 0-for-14 in those three losses where the team has only scored three goals total.
Nashville and Columbus met at the end of November and it was a 4-0 win for the Predators. I don’t expect a blowout in this one but Nashville is in a good position for the win. I might pick at a couple of their skaters, especially on their power play, but the best play in this game is goalie Pekka Rinne (if he gets the start).
