Boston Bruins at Tampa Bay Lightning
After a couple of losses in their first two games off the mini vacation, the Bruins have won three in a row and outscored their opponents 13-4. As far as DFS goes, though, their lack of production on the power play is concerning: Boston has drawn just 11 power plays in the five games off the break. To compound the problem, the team has given up four power play goals against in that stretch. What has saved them is what they’re great at as a team: dominating five on five play. The addition of Andrej Meszaros on defense at the trade deadline gives them a bit more depth as well. And another offensive threat from the rearguards.
Tampa Bay has lost four of five games since Sochi and at times it hasn’t been pretty: In a loss to Buffalo, they outshot the Sabres by 23 but were outshot by 46 in the other four games they had. The return of Steven Stamkos was most definitely a boost but the loss of Martin St. Louis will loom large. As has been the case all season, the penalty kill has hindered the team by giving up four goals in the five games mentioned. Even goaltender Ben Bishop, likely an MVP candidate, has had his struggles in his last few games.
These two teams have met three times already this year, all three games with Stamkos in the starting lineup, and the Bruins have taken all three games by a combined score of 11-1. One note is that the Bruins power play is 0-for-13 against this team this season so the depth players might be a better choice in this one. Also, Tuukka Rask isn’t a terrible option in cash games.
