Tampa Bay Lightning vs. Dallas Stars
Tampa Bay, as mentioned, lost their first game off the break 3-2 to Nashville and both their goals came off the stick of Martin St. Louis. Trade rumours (and demands) aside, St. Louis is the very definition of a “professional athlete” and brings his best every game. For what it’s worth, that game saw Nikita Kucherov on the top power play unit with St. Louis and Victor Hedman and that unit clicked for a power play goal (and power play assists for Kucherov). His price is still pretty cheap so I’ll have him sprinkled across lineups today.
Dallas’s first line looked great in their first game back from the break and Jamie Benn managed three points in a 4-1 win over Carolina. One concern I do have about Dallas is the power play: over their last two games, their power play has gotten 12 opportunities and failed to convert on any of them. That unit has been known to go in prolonged stretches of goalless streaks, particularly earlier in the season, and hopefully that rights itself today against the league’s 26th-ranked penalty kill
This a game where both sides feature a ton of team speed. That said, both goalies are pretty good so this could be anywhere from a 2-1 game to a 5-4 game. That type of uncertainty is really bad for DFS; hockey is random enough. I won’t be stacking either side but will be taking some cheaper plays and avoiding both goalies.
