Winnipeg Jets at Nashville Predators
The Jets managed a shootout win over Phoenix in their first game back and did it while having all the hallmarks of a team coming off a long layoff: very good in spurts and inconsistent for stretches. I was able to watch most of that game and two things stood out to me: Evander Kane looked great coming off his hand injury and Jacob Trouba looked to be a future Norris Trophy winner. The kids are definitely alright in Winnipeg and as long as Ondrej Pavelec doesn’t blow it for them, they should fare well in this game.
Nashville also won in their first game back, a 3-2 win at home to Tampa Bay. The Predators looked good in that game although to be fair, just about everyone but Martin St. Louis looked bad for Tampa Bay. Nashville scored all three of their goals on the power play in that game and in a twist that might shock some people, the Predators now have a top five power play in the NHL. This is important because Winnipeg is sixth on the penalty kill in the league so it should be a battle of special teams today.
I am leaning the Jets in this game but will not have Ondrej Pavelec in my lineups, nor am I stacking them. There are still some nice value plays coming from Winnipeg, though.
Winnipeg’s power play units stayed largely the same before the break with Blake Wheeler moving between Andrew Ladd and Bryan Little with Toby Enstrom manning the point with Dustin Byfuglien.
