Vancouver Canucks at Boston Bruins
Vancouver burned me for the last time last night. This team has now lost four games in a row, scored just seven goals in that stretch, and the power play is 1-for-25 in their last six games. They are not generating the offense that they used to, having averaged just 27.8 shots on goal in those six contests as well. It doesn’t matter who is in the lineup, who’s not, who’s in net or who’s injured, this team just is not playing well right now in any facet. The Canucks are now 2-5-2 on the road since the Christmas break and their two wins were against Edmonton and Calgary. Whoooo.
After a rough post-Christmas stretch, the Bruins have gone 6-1-1 in their last eight games and, most days, they look like the Stanley Cup contender we expect them to look like. This is basically a team firing on all cylinders right now: Boston has scored 3-plus goals in seven of their last nine games (with eight power play goals along the way); both Tuukka Rask and Chad Johnson have been playing well of late; the team is getting healthy with both Loui Eriksson and Dougie Hamilton returning in the last month. The only concern is the penalty kill, but then you look at Vancouver’s power play of late and just laugh at the thought.
There’s a lot of bad blood between these two teams that goes back a few years. These two teams met back in December with Vancouver skating away with a 6-2 win. I don’t expect anything close to that tonight as that was the last time that Vancouver has scored more than three goals in regulation. With Vancouver having played last night, I wouldn’t be shocked if it was 6-2 for Boston.
This Vancouver team showed me absolutely nothing last night. As their Coach John Tortorella put it best in the post-game press conference:

I’m streaming Bruins at will, but focusing on the Bergeron line.
