Carolina Hurricanes at Montréal Canadiens
Carolina has been on a pretty good tear lately by having won four in a row and five of their last six games. The scoring is coming from everywhere as the Brothers Staal accounted for all three goals last night, Alex Semin the night before that, Jeff Skinner before that stretch of games and so on. With all that said, this team is playing their fifth game in seven days tonight and needed three goals in four minutes in the third period last night to win their game. This should be a tired team tonight.
The Habs are awful. Riding a four-game losing streak in which they’ve been outscored 19-5, the Habs look to break the slump tonight. They’ll need to keep the puck out of their own net for once as they’ve allowed at least four goals against in six straight games (and they’ve given up 19 power plays in their last three games, which doesn’t help). This is still a team that has a lot of talent, though, and tonight is a good night to see them break out of their losing skid.
These two teams met on New Year’s Eve with Carolina taking the game 5-4 in overtime. What stands out about that game is that there were 16 power plays between the two teams and four power play goals (two each). The way these two teams are playing right now, don’t be surprised if there are more goals than you might expect tonight.
Montréal is so bad that I can’t possibly lay any money on their goaltending in DFS to carry my lineups. With that said, there should be enough goals for the Canadiens power play lineup to provide value.
