Daily Fantasy Hockey DFS Value Update – January 28

Claude Giroux

Ottawa Senators at Columbus Blue Jackets

After a pretty good stretch of games, the Senators have lost four of their last five (1-2-2) while allowing 18 goals against in their four losses (they did shut out the hapless Washington Capitals). Not surprisingly, the Senators have been outshot in four of those five games (the only one they did not was against the hapless Montréal Canadiens). They aren’t huge margins of shot differentials but the fact remains that they aren’t limiting their opponents enough and it’s showing on the scoreboard.

Columbus has now lost back-to-back games after winning eight in a row and this game tonight is against a team they could very well be in a dogfight with for a wild card playoff spot. I would worry about Columbus’ ability to fill the net like they have done in recent memory; the Blue Jackets scored 10 power play goals in the first 10 games of this month and it has gone back-to-back games without clicking. These things go through their streaks and I wouldn’t rely on the Blue Jackets power play tonight.

Each team has a 4-1 win against each other so far this year (in each other’s barn, no less) and the shot differential is exactly one, so there’s no discernible pattern to draw on for this game. It is two games in two nights for Columbus but they are 6-2-1 in such situations this year so it doesn’t seem to bother them.

I have a tough time reading this game because these are two teams who should be going through a small downturn in their season and there’s not much prior history to give us a semblance of a pattern to follow. For that reason, I’ll defer to the home team but I don’t feel comfortable taking any player or goalie in this game so I will do so sparingly.
