Vancouver Canucks at Anaheim Ducks
Vancouver lost their first game of their road trip through the Southern US 1-0 in Los Angeles, and that’s pretty much par for the course for the Canucks as of late; Vancouver has scored 15 goals in their last seven games, losing six of those games (1-3-3). They aren’t getting their chances, either, as this team has averaged fewer than 25 shots on goal per game over their last five games. That, combined with their power play going 0-for-8 in their last three games, shows a team that has been in constant decline for a few weeks now (at least offensively).
Anaheim is still without a regulation loss at home this year, managing to shut out the Detroit Red Wings 1-0 in a game where they played without Olympian Ryan Getzlaf. His status is still uncertain for tonight and that could be a big swing in how tonight’s game goes. With Getzlaf in the lineup, they have averaged over four goals scored per game since the Christmas break.
These two teams faced each other in Anaheim on January 5 and that was a 4-3 overtime win for Anaheim. The Canucks were wildly outplayed from start to finish yet Anaheim had to score with under 1:30 left on the clock just to tie it before winning it in overtime. Anything can happen in a single game, but they also lost a contest in Anaheim earlier this year 3-1 (a game they outplayed the Ducks), so it would seem this is Anaheim’s game to lose.
Without Getzlaf in the lineup, there probably won’t be a lot of goals tonight, so keep an eye on his status throughout the day, as I’m a lot more bullish on the Ducks if he plays.
