Detroit Red Wings at Los Angeles Kings
The Red Wings continue their Western Conference road trip tonight in Los Angeles, having split their first two games on the trip with a loss in San Jose and a win in Dallas. The Wings have allowed 14 goals against in their last four road games, which had typically been their bread and butter through the first half of the season. The power play needs to get going tonight if they expect to win as they’ve failed to convert any PP chances in three straight games, going 0-for-12 in those contests.
Los Angeles has started to get back to their winning ways, having gone 2-0-1 in their last three games following a five-game losing streak. The Kings have scored eight goals in those three games, which should be considered an offensive explosion for them. It’s troubling, though, that they have just eight goals in those games on 124 shots, just a 6.5-percent shooting rate. Even their offensive explosions are tepid.
These two teams haven’t met yet this year, but they are largely the same rosters as last year. In their three meetings in the lockout-shortened season, there were a total of 12 goals scored. I anticipate tonight will be much of the same.
Detroit has a shot at winning tonight’s game, but I wouldn’t bet on it. The Kings are starting to fire on all cylinders offensively and Jimmy Howard has given up an average of three goals per game in his last four starts. I’ll be picking some players from the Kings to fit some rosters, but I’ll be particularly interested in whoever starts in net for them.
