Pittsburgh Penguins at Calgary Flames
The Penguins played last night in Edmonton, a 4-3 overtime loss that saw the team choke away the lead in the dying minutes of the game and then give up a power play goal in overtime. That said, it was only the team’s second loss in their last seven games and I anticipate a much better effort tonight.
To say that Calgary has been struggling to score is a massive understatement; this team has been shutout in back to back games for the second time since Christmas and they have scored just five goals over those last seven games. The kicker is that four of those goals came in a 4-3 win over Colorado, so other than that game, the Flames have scored one goal in the other six. One.
These two teams met just before Christmas in Pittsburgh which resulted in a 4-3 win for the Penguins. In that game, the Penguins scored all their goals at even strength, lighting up a team that is dead last in team save percentage at 5-on-5. Even with the loss last night, the Penguins have scored 18 goals in their last four games.
This game should be pretty straightforward. I will be making room for Malkin/Neal combos as well as Crosby/Kunitz combos, but will probably stay away from Marc-André Fleury.
