Colorado Avalanche at Minnesota Wild
In a strange turn of events, the Colorado Avalanche lost 2-1 in overtime last night to the New York Islanders. The Avalanche outplayed the Islanders for most of the game but were stymied by goaltender Kevin Poulin. It won’t get any easier tonight as they face a Minnesota team that has won four straight games while allowing just six goals over those games.
The Wild have outscored their opposition 14-6 over their four-game win streak, which ties a season high for consecutive wins. A big part of that has been the rebound of goaltender Niklas Backstrom who will be relied upon heavily until Josh Harding returns from the injured reserve.
I don’t expect a lot of goals tonight: Colorado is playing their second game in as many nights while the Wild have averaged just 22 shots on goal on their current win streak. This will be the fourth meeting this year between these two teams (each are 1-1-1) and there have been just 10 total goals scored in those three games.
Backstrom’s price is reasonable enough that I will have him in quite a few lineups tonight but I will be staying away from most of the skaters.
