Columbus Blue Jackets at Winnipeg Jets
Columbus is coming off a 3-0 shutout win last night at home to Carolina, giving the Blue Jackets two shutout wins in their last four games. It also gave goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky his second win in as many games since returning from injury and three shutout wins in his last six starts overall. This is a Columbus team that has put themselves back in the playoff hunt with 10 wins in their last 16 games and is starting to get healthy.
On the other hand, Winnipeg has lost four games in a row and has given up a total of 18 goals over that stretch. Both of their goalies have started two of those last four games, so it doesn’t seem to matter who is in net. What’s more worrisome is that 16 of those 18 goals did not come on the power play, so their five-on-five play has been leaving a lot to be desired. Compounding matters is that Evander Kane is expected to miss tonight’s game with a hand issue, helping deplete an already thin forward corps.
The other big news in this game is that Dustin Byfuglien will be playing forward on the Ladd/Little line in the hopes to shake things up a bit. I’m not sure how it will affect his daily value in terms of production, but it does give you a sneaky option in yearly leagues sort of like Brent Burns.
The Jets already have a 3-2 win over Columbus earlier this year but it was Kane who carried the Jets offense in that contest. With him out of the lineup, this is essentially a one-line team. I don’t particularly like either goalie because it seems like a tossup, so I’ll be taking a few value plays and that’s it.
