Ottawa Senators at Nashville Predators
This is a matchup of two teams headed in different directions: Ottawa has won four of their last five games and has points in all of them while Nashville has lost four of their last five, going 1-2-2 over that stretch.
Ottawa’s recent winning ways has vaulted them to within a win of a playoff spot, something that seemed far-fetched as recently as a month ago. Part of their run is their ability to stay out of the box – they have two short-handed chances or fewer in four of their last six games – but part of it has been the turnaround of Craig Anderson’s play as well.
Nashville has been good at limiting chances for the opposition as of late, having given up fewer than 30 shots against in five straight games. The problem is that they’re still missing Pekka Rinne, and Marek Mazanec is not Pekka Rinne. Over their last five games as a team, the Predators have given up 14 goals against on just 135 shots, meaning the opposition is shooting over 10-percent against Nashville as of late. That’s a pretty high mark and is cause for concern for just about any Predators fan.
This is another game without much previous history to go off of, so you can only look at how they’ve played lately. That kind of analysis scares me a little bit, so I’ll be taking some value picks out of this game but otherwise staying away.
