Calgary Flames at New York Rangers
Calgary started their Eastern road trip with a 2-1 overtime win yesterday in Buffalo. Yes, it’s just the Sabres, but a West Coast team crossing two time zones to play an afternoon game isn’t easy, and they managed to pull it off.
The Rangers, meanwhile, continue their nightmare of a nine-game home stand, as they’ve gone 0-3-1 so far, having been outscored 16-7 in those games.
The struggles of the Rangers at home is really quite something. In the lockout-shortened season, they went 16-6-2 at Madison Square Garden. The year before, when they finished at the top of the Eastern Conference, they went 27-12-2. In their first 15 home games this year, they’re 5-9-1.
Believe it or not, the Flames have dominated the East this year, having gone 7-2-2 in their first 11 games this year against the East. The Rangers, meanwhile, have not been so good against the West, as I’ve mentioned many times in this column.
Fool me once, shame on me. Fool me twice, uhh, shame on me again? I’ve been burned too many times this year by taking the Rangers at home. I wouldn’t take whoever starts in net for them, but I will have some Flames on my rosters in anticipation of a low-scoring game.
