Boston Bruins at Toronto Maple Leafs
Boston is coming off a game that, well, will live in a certain kind of infamy. As of this moment, they will be without Loui Eriksson (concussion), Shawn Thornton (suspension) and Chris Kelly (leg fracture). We’re also waiting for updates for Brad Marchand, who took a vicious knee to the head from Pittsburgh’s Chris Kelly last night. It appeared he was good to go, but concussion symptoms aren’t always readily apparent until the next day.
In previous Boston/Toronto matchups, going back to the playoffs, Toronto was usually able to use their team speed to create chances. The problem was, Boston was deep enough to overcome the skill of Toronto and dominate secondary lines. With all those players missing, on back to back nights, I don’t see how the Bruins could overcome an early deficit.
Not only is Boston going to be shallow up front, they will likely be starting backup Chad Johnson. He’s been good this year, but he’s not Tuukka Rask.
The Leafs first line of Phil Kessel, Nazem Kadri and James van Riemsdyk has looked great at times, and there’s not much else to pick from anyway. This is a great situation for the Leafs to escape this weekend with four points they might not have thought to get.
