Daily Fantasy Hockey Value Update – December 8, 2013

San Jose Sharks center Patrick Marleau

Washington Capitals at New York Rangers

Washington is coming off a beat down of Nashville last night, while the Rangers lost an overtime game that required a goal by Chris Kreider with :22 seconds left in the game to tie it up.

Already confirmed to start tonight for the Rangers is Henrik Lundqvist. Although he might be one of the top goalies on the planet, this is three games in four days for him. Not only do goalies typically do much worse in the second game of a back-to-back, the problem is worse when you add another game to the mix. Goalies in the NHL aren’t meant to have a heavy workload like that.

When two teams are facing off against each other playing back-to-back games, I typically favor the team that is deeper, regardless of who is in net. I would say the Rangers take this game, but there’s no good read here. Both teams have similar records in their last five games, both teams have struggled against teams they shouldn’t have and inconsistency is killer in fantasy.
