Daily Fantasy Football: StarStreet Roster Building Week 14 (Sunday/MNF)

Detroit Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford

A couple of other lower priced quarterbacks that have more appealing match-ups than Campbell are Matt McGloin ($8,900) and Matt Flynn ($9,300).

Flynn gets to go up against the Atlanta Falcons defense which hasn’t intercepted a quarterback in four straight games, and has allowed nearly every opposing quarterback to throw for multiple touchdowns against them.

The only two quarterbacks who threw for less than two touchdowns were Cam Newton and EJ Manuel, and they each added a rushing touchdown, to go alongside their one passing touchdown.

There will be plenty of hesitation to start Flynn this week, after his “play” against the Lions last week, and you never know if he might get pulled for Scott Tolzien, ala Geno Smith and Matt Simms.

McGloin is a tempting cheap option this week, as his opponents, the New York Jets, have given up 12 passing touchdowns in their past five games, after holding Tom Brady scoreless in Week 7. Only Joe Flacco wasn’t able to throw for multiple touchdowns versus the Jets during those past five games.

The Jets’ secondary can be beat, but Raiders Head Coach Dennis Allen has insisted he would like to see Terrelle Pryor get some playing time near the end of the year, so you never know if he might make an appearance, and take away some of McGloin’s snaps.

Outside of Campbell, Flynn, and McGloin, a few other low-to-mid-tier priced StarStreet quarterbacks to consider this week include:

EJ Manuel: $10,500
Ryan Fitzpatrick: $10,800
Joe Flacco: $10,900

Last week I wondered why EJ Manuel was so cheap on StarStreet, and somebody must have been listening, as he has gone up $1,000 in price since last week.

Against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Manuel once again has a good match-up, and if you’re looking to save money, but not want to rely on the likes of McGloin or Campbell, Manuel is one name to consider.

Joe Flacco has the best match-up of the week, but I’m not all in on Flacco this week, as I was on McCown last week.

Match-up is just one of many factors to consider when submitting any type of fantasy lineup, but it’s hard to deny Flacco has a great match-up this week against the Minnesota Vikings.

What Flacco does with his match-up advantage is another question though, but his $10,900 price gives you a chance to own a quarterback in a prime position to score plenty of fantasy points, but not have to pay a high price to get them. Going with Flacco also allows you save up your cash to spend freely at other positions.

During Fitzpatrick’s stint as the full-time starting quarterback for the Titans, he’s the number four fantasy quarterback. In his last four games, he’s thrown six touchdowns to three interceptions, with all three of those interceptions coming in his last game against the Indianapolis Colts.

Another pleasant aspect of Fitzy’s recent play is his rushing ability, as he has rushed for a total of 119 yards and two touchdowns in his last four games.

The match-up for Fitzpatrick is a good one versus the Denver Broncos this week, as they have given up three straight games of 20+ fantasy point performances to opposing quarterbacks, with Alex Smith averaging 49 rushing yards in two of those three games.

The Rockers Division (one high priced quarterback teamed up with one lower priced quarterback)

ou’ve seen who your high and low priced quarterback options are on StarStreet this week, and if you plan to mix and match any of the above names, you can find yourself with some decent Shawn Michaels/Marty Jannetty-type DFS quarterback combinations.

Out quarterback who I haven’t discussed yet, and who will be in plenty of my StarStreet line-ups is Josh McCown. He’s the one name I’m targeting on StarStreet this week if I’m looking to save at the quarterback position, and am only willing to roll with one high priced quarterback.

McCown, and his $11,500 price tag, comes in $1,200 cheaper than Nick Foles, and $2,500 less than Stafford, and would make for a solid QB2 paired with either one of those two options. Splitting up the Foles/McCown stack gives you a chance to save yourself from the possibility that the Eagles-Lions game doesn’t live up to its over-under spread.

Also, if you go McCown over Stafford, you suddenly find yourself plush because of the $2,500 price difference, and all of a sudden you can start looking at some of the elite players at other positions.

This might be the last week you get to start McCown in any sort of fantasy format this season, as Jay Cutler inches closer to a return, and a Monday Night Football match-up versus the Dallas Cowboys gives him, and his fantasy owners, a chance at a proper send off.

In four starts, McCown is averaging almost 39 attempts per game, and the Cowboys defense ranks third in pass attempts allowed on the season, and they also give up over 310 passing yards per game to opposing quarterbacks.

During his stint as the Bears’ starting quarterback, McCown averages almost 300 passing yards per game, and has thrown seven touchdowns, to only one interception.

The Bears’ defense is also on the snide, and that’s an advantage McCown has, as it means he could be in a back and forth offensive showdown. The Dallas Cowboys’ run defense is just as bad as its pass defense, but Cowboys linebacker Sean Lee returns this week, which should impact Matt Forte more than McCown.

If wanting to go the “stud” and “dud” approach to daily fantasy football this week, McCown is a stud with a dud like price.
