The XN Sports league playoffs don’t start until next week so it’s the last chance for those on the outside looking in to make some moves to try to sneak into a playoff spot. Let’s take a look at who the XNers are picking up this week, and who they’re dropping, and some lessons you can apply in tweaking your own roster.
Fifty Shades of Cats (Felipe Melecio) added Julian Edelman, dropped Matt Flynn
Felipe is sitting at fifth place so he has as much as anyone to gain or lose this week. Edelman is a good start since the Pats’ trusty receiver has seen a major resurgence of late, catching 18 passes for 211 yards and two touchdowns over his last two games. With Aaron Dobson and Kenbrell Thompkins banged up, Edelman is back to being a PPR monster.
Studfeldsville (Sal Stefanile) added Raiders D/ST, dropped Tavon Austin
The Raiders have recovered four fumbles, scored two touchdowns, picked off two passes, and recorded nine sacks over their last four games. They’re going into a matchup against a Jets offense that has allowed at least 16 fantasy points to opposing defenses in three straight weeks and in four of their last five.
Fifty Shades of Cats (Felipe Melecio) added Andre Holmes, dropped Miles Austin
With Denarius Moore out, Holmes stepped up last week with seven receptions for 136 yards against the Cowboys. The Jets allow a ton of fantasy points on defense as well so Holmes has a great looking matchup in Week 14.
Fifty Shades of Cats (Felipe Melecio) added Jacoby Jones, dropped Mario Manningham
Manningham is the odd man out in the 49ers passing game while Jacoby has eight receptions for a 156 yards and a touchdown over his last two games and has a great matchup against a dreadful Vikings defense.
Fifty Shades of Cats (Felipe Melecio) added Ace Sanders, dropped Marvin Jones
Sanders caught eight passes for 67 yards last week but reined in just three catches for 26 yards against the Texans on Thursday night. Luckily Felipe didn’t start him.
Fifty Shades of Cats (Felipe Melecio) added Rams D/ST, dropped Antonio Gates
The Rams have five interceptions, four fumble recoveries, and two touchdowns in their last three games so they’ve been doing well fantasy-wise despite losing. They’ll face a hot Arizona team, though, that has allowed more than seven fantasy points to an opposing defense just once in their last five games.
My Buddy and Me (Dave Major) added LeGarrette Blount, dropped Geno Smith
It says a lot about how bad a starting quarterback is when he is unownable in even 2QB leagues. Of course, Geno has a combined -2.5 fantasy points over his last three games, hasn’t passed for more than 159 yards since Week 7, and has six interceptions over his last three games. Meanwhile, Blount was the Pats’ leading rusher against the Texans last week, we’ll see if the trend holds against the Browns.
My Buddy and Me (Dave Major) added Texans D/ST, dropped Titans D/ST
The Texans had a good-looking matchup against a Jags offense that doesn’t score a lot of points and allowed 10 fantasy points to Houston’s defense just two weeks ago. Unfortunately, the Jags are suddenly one of the hottest teams in the league and didn’t have much trouble moving the ball, so the Texans D gave Dave a mere one fantasy point on Thursday night.
Studfeldsville (Sal Stefanile) added Zach Miller, dropped Dolphins D/ST
Miller is coming off of a big game against the Saints and has nine catches for 155 yards and a touchdown over his last two games. The Niners have been stingy, though, and allowed just 22 yards to Miller in their first meeting this season so we’ll see if this pans out.
Keepin Heads Ringin (Michael Clifford) added Heath Miller, dropped David Wilson
Miller has put up double-digit fantasy points in two of his last three weeks so he’s definitely worth the pickup. How about the fact that Michael has held on to David Wilson this long, though? That’s real commitment, folks.
Blurred Goal Lines (Tony Consiglio) added Matt Cassel, dropped Aaron Dobson
With Christian Ponder out with a concussion, Cassel is going to get another start against the Ravens. As always, you have to pick up all starting quarterbacks not named Geno Smith in 2QB leagues, if only to keep them out of the hands of other players.
