Daily Fantasy Hockey Picks – March 23

New Jersey Devils right wing Ilya Kovalchuk

The second lineup I presented last night scored 33.80 points and got in the money in FanDuel’s $300 Fri. NHL Double Up. The first lineup—that went heavy on the Penguins—didn’t fare so well. Sidney Crosby and Chris Kunitz put up decent numbers but we needed more out of them since we used up so much of our cap space on two positions. My love of cheap goaltending finally caught up to me as Miikka Kiprusoff allowed five goals and really hurt us with -0.4 fantasy points.

The following lineup works for FanDuel’s late game tournaments:

LW: Brad Marchand $6,800—Boston just seems to own Toronto and Marchand has two assists against Toronto this year. He’s also a solid +3 against Toronto.

LW: Max Pacioretty $7,700 —Pacioretty has three points in his past two games.

RW: Ilya Kovalchuk $6,900—Kovalchuk has a point in three straight games. Tonight he gets a great matchup in Scott Clemmensen.

RW: Chris Stewart $6,400—Stewart has seven points in his past four games. I’ll consider his -3 rating against Vancouver last night a simple bump in the road. I like him tonight against Edmonton.

C: David Desharnais $4,700—Desharnais sees power play time and had two assists against the Islanders on Mar. 21.

C: Mike Fisher $5,400—Fisher has three goals in his past two games.

D: P.K. Subban $6,700—Subban always has the chance for a multiple point game and those points could come on the power play tonight. Buffalo has allowed 27 power play goals this season—worst in the NHL.

D: Dougie Hamilton $4,200—I’ll continue to roll with Hamilton as he sees healthy power play minutes.

G: Anton Khudobin $6,200—This cheap goaltending pick has more merit behind it than the Kiprusoff pick from yesterday. Boston plays solid defense and Khudobin has looked good this year. He’s 6-2-0, with a 2.14 GAA and a .925 save percentage. Boston also has an eight game winning streak against Toronto. Khudobin is the probable starter but make sure you check on his status before your lineups lock. I’ve been following Boston Globe reporter Fluto Shinzawa for Khudobin updates. There is still a lot of uncertainty surrounding Boston’s starting goalie tonight.

As of 3PM leftwinglock.com still has Khudobin as the probable starter based on information from Shinzawa. You can also check DailyFaceoff.com for goalie updates.

If Khudobin does not start we’d have to reconfigure our entire lineup. Clemmensen is only $4,800 on FanDuel but he’s very difficult to trust. He’s also not the confirmed starter.

NOTE: Sam Gagner could be a nice play tonight. He has five goals in five games. You would have to play with your RW spots as he’s $6,900.
