Daily Fantasy Hockey Picks – March 22

Pittsburgh Penguins

Last night our NHL FanDuel lineup got us 39 points—just 1.5 points out of the money in a major FanDuel tournament. It should have easily placed in the top half of any 50/50 you played. Ryan Spooner ended up on Boston’s third line and only saw just over eight minutes of ice time. He only scored 0.4 fantasy points but that’s the risk I was willing to take for a player who came in at $3,000.  It’s most likely he no longer is daily fantasy relevant—but he’s a still an intriguing player to keeps tabs on.

I’ll offer two lineups today. One lineup will be Pittsburgh Penguins heavy as they get the Islanders and Evgeni Nabokov. Nabokov has allowed seven goals in his last two starts. Because I’m using the Crosby/Kunitz pairing significant cuts had to be made at other positions.

Lineup One:

Pittsburgh Penguins
Pittsburgh Penguins left wing Chris Kunitz 14 reacts with linemates left wing James Neal 18 and center Sidney Crosby 87 after Kunitz scored a goal against New York Islanders goalie Evgeni Nabokov left during the first period at the CONSOL Energy Center The Pittsburgh Penguins won 6 1 Charles LeClaire USA TODAY Sports

LW: Chris Kunitz $8,800

LW: Jiri Hudler $5,100—Hudler has two power play points in his past three games.

RW: Beau Bennett $4,900—Bennett will skate on Pittsburgh’s second line tonight and the matchup against Nabokov is too juicy for me to ignore.

RW: Blake Wheeler $6,500—Wheeler has six goals in his past six games.

C: Sidney Crosby $9,900

C: Matt Stajan $5,000—I like Curtis Glencross tonight but didn’t have the cap space to fit him into this lineup. Stajan skates with Glencross and recently had five points in two games. He saw over 18 minutes of ice time against Nashville last night but Stajan most likely won’t see power play time. Do you sense the caveat I’m giving with this pick?

D: Matt Niskanen $4,100—Letang is out again and that could mean some production from Niskanen. He had a goal and four shots on net against Washington on Mar. 19.

D: Grant Clitsome $4,100—Clitsome sees power play time and had an even strength assist against Boston on Mar. 19.

G: Miikka Kiprusoff $6,600—Yes, I may be banished to daily fantasy hell for playing Kiprusoff tonight. I’m a self-admitted cheap goaltender junkie and Kiprusoff gives me my daily fix.
