Daily Fantasy Hockey Picks – Feb. 21

Alexander Ovechkin

Yesterday only featured three NHL games and most of the scoring came in the Pittsburgh/Philadelphia game. There were 16 goals scored last night—11 came from Pitt/Philly game. Paul Martin continues to be a great daily fantasy play and put up 6.9 fantasy points last night. With Martin’s help we won three out of four head-to-head matchups last night to bring us to 21-12 for the year.

Here’s the lineup I’m going with on FanDuel tonight:

LW: Alexander Ovechkin $7,700—Ovechkin always has upside. He hasn’t scored in two games but has 12 shots on goal over that time. I’ll take a goal scorer who shoots the puck any day.

LW: Jiri Tlusty $5,700—I’m going with Tlusty because of his matchup against Winnipeg (they are seventh worst in the league in Goals Against Per Game). Tlusty has nine points in 14 games this season.

RW: Jakub Voracek $5,200—Ok, so I fell in love with Voracek last night. He has seven points in two games. I’ll ride the hot hand at $5,200.

RW: Ilya Kovalchuk $7,800—His daily fantasy price tag is rising as he’s had four points in his last three games. Even though he hasn’t scored a goal in three games he hasn’t been afraid to shoot—the goals will come.

C: Claude Giroux $7,000—Giroux has two goals and three assists over his last two games. It’s starting to look like he’s heating up.

C: Eric Staal $8,700—I like his matchup against Winnipeg tonight so I’ll  go with him. I was torn between Staal and John Tavares. Tavares is $9,000 and since his hat-trick against New Jersey he hasn’t had a point. No one would question you for going with Tavares and you could still fit him into this lineup and be under the salary cap.

D: P.K. Subban $6,100—Subban started off his season on fire. He has slowed down recently but will get plenty of chances on the power play and he’s not afraid to shoot.

D: Dougie Hamilton $3,400—Hamilton is cheap and plays on the power play. It’s always difficult for me to pass on Hamilton. I am weary of his plus/minus but I like the fact he generally gets three or four shots per game.

G: Christopher Nihlstorp $3,000—Is this pick irresponsible? Maybe. But I’m a Grade-A sucker for cheap goaltenders when they are available on FanDuel. He has only started two games this season but is 2-0 with a 2.70 GAA and a .918 save percentage.
