Daily Fantasy Hockey Picks – Feb. 20

St. Louis Blues left wing David Perron

Yesterday was a bizzare day at FanDuel. In one 50/50 league the winning score was only 35.80. Even with my lineup of only 18.95 points I still took two out of three head-to-heads. It was a day when Brent Seabrook‘s mighty zero was a full 1.3 points better than Justin Schultz and Christian Ehrhoff combined. It was a day when Justin Schultz had a power play assist and a shot on goal but still finished with -0.1 fantasy points (because of his minus-three rating). The plus/minus rating is something I loathe in daily fantasy. It has its place in roto or even head to head leagues, but I just find it too rewarding and too punitive a stat for daily fantasy.

Enough of my ramblings.

This is the team I’m rolling with tonight:

LW: Jiri Hudler $5,300—I’ll be honest with you, I’m agonizing over this pick and I’m fully prepared to hate myself in the morning. He has nine points in 11 games, but hasn’t done much recently.

LW: David Perron $5,700—I think Perron offers good value at $5,700. He could notch a power play goal and pick up a few penalty minutes tonight.

RW: Jarome Iginla $6,400—I keep waiting for the great Ignilia 2013 breakout. One goal in 14 games just is not Iginla-like. He does have eight assists and offers value there—but we want goals. What gives me hope is the fact he has 48 shots shots on goal this season. The tide has to turn at some point.

RW: Matt Read $4,900—Read has four points in Philly’s last three games.

C: Claude Giroux $7,000—Is Giroux finally feeling it? It seems so. He has two goals and three assists over his past two games. I also like the fact he has eight shots on goal in his last two games.

C: Sidney Crosby $9,900—Stud.

D: Dennis Wideman $4,900—In 14 games Wideman has 10 points and 40 shots on goal. He’s also productive on the power play. There’s not much more we can ask for from this position.

D: Paul Martin $3,900—Martin continues to get a ton of power play time (five minutes on Sunday) and is a plus-two over his past two games. Martin is a great play tonight at $3,900 .

G: Joey MacDonald $6,700—I’m going with value at goaltender. With only six goaltenders to choose from he’s the cheapest. And I’m not just taking him because he’s cheap—he’s playing an L.A offense I simply do not trust. L.A’s offense has seemed sluggish recently. Still, it’s good to know what you’re getting into with MacDonald—his GAA (3.11) and save percentage (.882) leave a lot to be desired. On a postivive note, he did get a win on Sunday.
