I’ve decided to go boom or bust with my Star Fantasy Leagues daily lineup today. This could be extremely good or colossally bad. But I’m ok with that. (C) Salvador Perez $4,772 – The power hasn’t been there so much this season as Perez only boasts two home runs. I’m picking him based on his .315 average and his nine-game hitting streak.
(1B) Adam Dunn $5,423 – There’s only one real reason to go with Dunn: to score a home run or two. The big man seems to have found his power stroke with four bombs in four games. He actually has eight total hits in that stretch, too.
(2B) Jason Kipnis $6,225 – There isn’t much going right in Cleveland these days, but Kipnis is the exception to that rule. He’s riding a seven-game hitting streak with eleven hits and three steals during that stretch.
(3B) Pedro Alvarez $5,205 – This choice fits a similar mold to that of Dunn. Alvarez likes to hit home runs and not a whole lot more. He has four this month and 14 on the season. I wouldn’t mind each of those totals going up before the weekend comes.
(SS) Zack Cozart $5,887 – Cozart is on a run of multi-hit games with two hits in each of his last three. On Tuesday, he had a home run and four RBI, as well, so he’s producing in several ways.
(OF) Carlos Gomez $7,998 – Gomez enjoyed a great performance in the Brewers’ last game on Wednesday with four hits, three runs, three RBI, and two triples. It’s just the latest addition to his resume during his all-star-caliber season.
(OF) Justin Upton $7,898 – This is the only Upton to even consider touching this year and, after a bit of a dry spell, Justin seems to be coming around. He hit his first homer since May 17th on Wednesday and has multiple hits in two of his last three games. He could put up a big night at any time.
(OF) Giancarlo Stanton $5,824 – Stanton is still working on getting back into full rhythm since returning from injury. But, in his three games back, he’s had a hit in each one and did hit a home run on Tuesday. He has too much potential to let slide at this price.
(U) Todd Frazier $5,620 – The Reds’ third baseman has just three hits in his last three games, but two of them were home runs. That’s what I’m going to focus on.
(SP) Chris Sale $18,224 – One of the most dominant pitchers in the American League this season is pitching against the Astros. Need I say more?
(SP) Justin Masterson $12,689 – Masterson hasn’t been as strong in his last couple outings as he had been earlier on in the season, but his 3.68 ERA and 92 strikeouts on the season are hard to ignore and he gets to return home to face the Nationals after a disappointing road trip.
(RP) Jonathan Papelbon $2,215 – Papelbon picked up the save, working a 1-2-3 ninth, in the Phillies’ victory over the Twins last night. He hasn’t been overworked this season, so he’ll be good to go again tonight if Kyle Kendrick can get them ahead late in Colorado.
(P) Jose Fernandez $11,487 – The Marlins rookie has given up more than three runs just once since the beginning of May and is averaging more than six strikeouts a game in that span. He has a tough matchup with Saint Louis tonight, but he should be good enough to at least keep the Cardinals’ bats in check.
