(C) Joe Mauer $5,995 – Mauer has long been the heart of the Twins’ lineup and he certainly is now. He has at least one hit in every game in May and has an 11-game hitting streak. His power numbers may not be what they once were, but if he still picks up a couple hits and scores a run or two, I’ll take that.
(1B) Anthony Rizzo $7,868 – Rizzo is a guy who could bring the power to this lineup. He has 9 homers on the season and, prior to his 0-for-4 on Sunday, had three consecutive multi-hit games.
(2B) Matt Carpenter $7,645 – Second base is a tough lot tonight as most everyone playing seems to be in the midst of a cool streak. But, Carpenter has a mini 5-game hit streak going, so we’ll ride with him tonight.
(3B) Adrian Beltre $7,332 – Beltre is a notoriously cold starter and that was exactly the case again this year. He hit just .222 in April, but seems to have figured things out now. He’s hitting .340 in May and had 4 hits on Sunday. He also has home runs in consecutive games.
(SS) Jean Segura $6,508 – Segura continues to show he is ready for The Show. He’s hitting .359 on the year with 6 home runs and 10 stolen bases. He also has 8 hits, 2 homers, and 2 steals in his last 3 games. Yeah, he’s the guy here.
(OF) Alex Gordon $7,995 – Gordon keeps rolling along this season and has multiple hits in 5 of his last 7 games. His 28 RBI on the season also put him at 6th in the American League.
(OF) Gerardo Parra $8,741 – He might be the Diamondbacks’ 4th outfielder, but he’s not playing like it. He’s hitting .341 this month and is coming off a 7-hit performance in Arizona’s 4-game series against Philadelphia.
(OF) Alex Rios $7,488 – Rios is leading the White Sox in batting average, home runs, and RBI. He also has a 7-game hitting streak and is facing Pedro Hernandez tonight, who has a .315 BAA this season.
(U) Pedro Alvarez $4,378 – Alvarez has two hits in each of his last three games and, with 6 home runs on the year, has the potential to hit one out, which I always like to have in my utility player.
(SP) A.J. Burnett $15,350 – Tonight, I’m going with the two best strikeout pitchers available. The first is Burnett, whose 66 K’s are the best in the NL. His 2.54 ERA isn’t too shabby, either. Plus, he’s pitching against the Brewers who are 1-9 in their last 10 and have struggled to score runs at times.
(SP) Anibal Sanchez $16,225 – Sanchez has the second-highest strikeout total among tonight’s pitchers with 58 on the year. And he’s facing an Astros team which has struck out more than any other in the majors.
(RP) Addison Reed $2,399 – Closers are always a gamble, in that they may not appear. Reed, though, has 11 saves on the year and, not having pitched since last Wednesday, is due to get into a game soon, possibly not even in a save situation.
(P) Greg Holland $2,015 – I’m giving this pitcher’s spot to another reliever, rather than a starter, to load up at other positions. The Royals’ opponent tonight is an Angels team which was nearly the victim of a perfect game on Sunday night. Another sub-par offensive outing from them could mean a save chance for Holland.
