The Rebound
Blake Bortles, $5,600

Blake Bortles was bad in 2014. How bad?

Blake Bortles struggled playing the most mentally and physically demanding position in team sports as a rookie. In his second year, he has demonstrated significantly more confidence in himself and his supporting cast. Bortles is posting prolific fantasy numbers by aggressively pushing the ball downfield, evidenced by his 4.4 (No. 8) Air Yards Per Attempt in 2015.
In a highly volatile and disappointing year for fantasy quarterbacks, Blake Bortles has been one of the few weekly mainstays at the position. Bortles is near the top of the league in total QB1 performances through nine weeks. Though his completion percentage remains near the bottom of the league, like a young Matthew Stafford, Blake Bortles’ fantasy output is propelled by a dynamic supporting case.
In week 10, Blake Bortles faces a Baltimore secondary that allows 25.7-fantasy points per game to opposing quarterbacks, second only to New Orleans. Though Allen Hurns is questionable with a sprained foot, Allen Robinson and Julius Thomas are capable of absorbing the majority of targets, and Bryan Walters has demonstrated on-field competence with a 71.7-percent catch rate (top-10 in the NFL) this season. If Bortles struggles early, because Jacksonville’s team defense allows 29.4-points per game, the game flow escape hatch will be open just in case.
One way or another, Blake Bortles will find a way to score lots of fantasy points this week.
The Grinder
LeGarrette Blount, $4,900
Average PPR Fantasy Points: 12.80
Dion Lewis suffered a torn ACL in week 9 and will miss the rest of the season. Redraft enthusiasts are rushing to acquire James White, the Patriots’ backup passing down specialist, however, Dion Lewis and his 58.4-percent Juke Rate are irreplicable. Without a Dion Lewis-caliber back on the roster, the Patriots must modify their offensive game plan to include less RB screens and RB pass routes and more between the tackles runs. In other words, more LeGarrette Blount.
Last week, LeGarrette Blount pounded out 129-rushing yards and a touchdown. Facing another soft NFC East rush defense (the Giants allow 114.8-rushing yards per game) in week 10, Blount will likely be the focal point of the Patriots’ rushing attack. With an enhanced role and friendly matchup, Blount projects to rush for over 100-yards and one or more touchdowns this week.
New Target Monster
Kamar Aiken, $4,500.00
Average PPR Fantasy Points: 8.70
Steve Smith’s career ended suddenly with a torn Achilles’ tendon in week 8. Kamar Aiken will operate as Baltimore’s No. 1 wide receiver this week. At 6-2, 215-pounds, Aiken owns a 106.3 (83rd-percentile) Height-adjusted Speed Score and a 126.1 (74th-percentile) Burst Score on PlayerProfiler.com. Kamar Aiken is a prototypical NFL flanker with a playmaker profile, but he priced like he is just a guy on DraftKings.
In week 10, the Ravens play a Jacksonville secondary allowing 37.8 PPR fantasy points to opposing wide receivers. After Steve Smith went down with an injured back week 4, Kamar Aiken averaged 77.5-yards and 8-targets a game operating as Joe Flacco’s defacto go-to receiver. In what could be a high-scoring game, this could be Aiken’s first splash week at the NFL level.
The Tease
Austin Seferian-Jenkins, $2,800
Average PPR Fantasy Points: 18.00
Austin Seferian-Jenkins was the second tight end drafted in 2014. However, many draft analysts ranked Seferian-Jenkins the No. 1 tight end prospect based on enticing athletic measurables, evidenced by a 10.25 (90th-percentile) Catch Radius, and uber college production, demonstrated by a 29.5-percent (89th-percentile) College Dominator Rating. Seferian-Jenkins’ elite prospect status fueled the enthusiasm around this 2015 breakout tight du jour. Then, he delivered in week 1 with 2 touchdowns and 28 PPR fantasy points.
After touting Austin Seferian-Jenkins in last week’s Cheat Code, and then being discouraged by ASJ’s surprise inactive status vs. the Giants, our love for the Big Hyphen is undaunted. While the Cowboys only allow 10.9-PPR fantasy points to opposing tight ends, Dallas’ star linebacker Sean Lee will likely miss week 10 with a concussion. On the other hand, all indications are that Austin Seferian-Jenkins will return in week 10 and immediately become Jameis Winston’s second option in read progression ahead of Donteea Dye and Adam Humphries. Those names are not typos. Without Vincent Jackson, Buccaneers opponents understandably shade coverage toward Mike Evans, leaving room for Seferian-Jenkins to operate in the middle of the field and provide a lucrative return on his $2,800 DraftKings salary.
