Value Plays

Quarterback

Connor Cook, Michigan State $5,600

Cook has scored more than one touchdown in all but one game this season, and has scored more than two touchdowns in five of Michigan State’s seven games. Cook has had a favorable schedule of late, taking down Indiana and Purdue, and has a rivalry matchup against Michigan this weekend at home. Cook is averaging 21 fantasy points per game, but in games where he has thrown the ball 30-plus times, Cook is averaging around 25 fantasy points per game. Will he throw the ball 30 times this weekend? Chances are he will as Michigan’s defense is fourth in the nation against the run.

Against the pass, the Wolverines have allowed a touchdown every 19 pass attempts, which includes games against Penn State, Rutgers, and Minnesota. These teams have combined for only 25 passing touchdowns this season. Michigan State alone has thrown 18 touchdowns, but has only thrown 208 passes on the year. Something’s got to give, and considering Michigan has not faced an offense like Michigan State’s yet, Cook will be the beneficiary. Last year, Cook threw for a touchdown and ran for another in a win over Michigan.

Running Back

Sam Craft, Memphis $5,100

Craft and the Tigers will face one of the worst defenses in college football in Southern Methodist this weekend. So far this year, SMU has allowed 18 rushing touchdowns to go along with 1450 yards on a 5.73 yards per carry average. Craft had a tough matchup last week against Houston, who allows just 3.6 yards per carry, but that is a blessing in disguise as it lowered Craft’s price for this weekend. Two weeks ago, Craft ran for 170 yards and a touchdown against Cincinnati, who has a comparable rushing defense to SMU. At $5,100, he is a good value if you want to add high-priced players elsewhere.

Jon Hilliman, Boston College $4,900

Hilliman had a disappointing week last week against Clemson, rushing for just 17 yards on 12 carries. That is not a bad thing however, as Clemson has one of the better defensive lines in the country allowing just three yards a carry. But, like Craft, that lowered his price for the better. This week, Hilliman will face a Wake Forest defense who allows 175 yards rushing per game. Boston College will need to get its running game back on track, and that starts with Hilliman, who is averaging a touchdown per game this season.

Wide Receiver

Tevin Jones, Memphis $3,700

As mentioned, Memphis faces one of the worst defenses in college football this weekend in SMU. Jones looks to be the primary beneficiary of the passing game. He has caught 11 passes for 142 yards and two touchdowns in his last two games and will look to make it three in a row against a porous Mustangs defense. SMU has allowed over 1800 yards and 16 touchdowns through the air in just six games this year, but what is staggering is that SMU allows its opponents to throw for 8.7 yards per attempt.

De’Runnya Wilson, Mississippi State $4,800

Wilson has struck the minds of fantasy football analysts all over, as he is a monster of a wide receiver. At 6-foot-5 and over 210 pounds, the Bulldogs’ pass-catcher has the tools to be a touchdown machine. In fact, he has already begun that progression. Wilson has caught a pass in six games this season, and has a touchdown in each. In his last three games, Wilson has four catches in each matchup for 72 yards, 72 yards, and 91 yards in addition to a touchdown catch in each. For his price of $4,800 and his ability to get into the endzone, he is a prime value on DraftKings this weekend. Mississippi State faces a Kentucky defense who has been good as a unit this year, but allowed Florida (110th in the nation in passing yards) to throw for 295 yards and three touchdowns earlier this season.
