2-QB Fantasy Football Stock Watch: Week 7

Tom Brady

Byes: Philadelphia (Nick Foles), Tampa Bay (Mike Glennon)

When something is too good to be true, then sometimes it is. Eli Manning was on fire from Week 2 to Week 5, having thrown 1,011 passing yards and 10 passing touchdowns to only three interceptions.

Eli was fantasy’s QB5 during those four games, and it seemed the good times were going to keep rolling into Week 6 vs. Philadelphia. They didn’t, and Eli’s stock has taken a big hit with the loss of No. 1 WR Victor Cruz.

I wanted to highlight Eli to show just how upside-down the NFL is on a week-to-week basis. What’s up one week is down the next, and then back to being up the week after. Trading for Eli in a 2-QB league before Week 6 was going to cost you a lot. Eli’s value was sky-high. Now, after Week 6, it’s taken a dip. If you think Eli will rebound in Week 7 vs. Dallas you might be able to throw out a lowball offer on him in your 2-QB league. Take advantage of Eli’s down week and hope he turns it around going forward.

Below you’ll find my quarterback rankings for Week 7 and my weekly stock watch report…

Week 7 Quarterbacks on the Rise:

Joe Flacco
When you have a game like Joe Flacco did in Week 6 it’s hard not to say his stock rose. 306 passing yards, five passing touchdowns, and 32.24 standard fantasy points. Four of his five scores came in the first quarter. That was Flacco’s day vs. Tampa Bay. Flacco now gets to face Atlanta and Pittsburgh in two of his next there games.

Derek Carr
While he was outdone by Joe Flacco’s five passing touchdown day, rookie Derek Carr threw four scores of his own, as well as 282 passing yards. The rookie did his best trying to keep up with Philip Rivers (313 passing yards, 3 passing touchdowns) and the rest of the San Diego Chargers offense, but fell just short in a 31-28 loss.

Carr’s performance was even more impressive when you remember he suffered a high-ankle sprain and a sprained MCL vs. Miami in Week 4. His upcoming schedule doesn’t exactly seem beatable, but not many of us (myself included) thought he would be able to do much vs. San Diego. Yet, he threw for the second most passing yards and most passing touchdowns against the Chargers defense this season.

Week 7 Quarterbacks on the Slide:

Kirk Cousins
Washington’s 1-5 record and Kirk Cousins’ second 3+ interception game of the season saw his stock fall after Week 6.

There is no official word of Robert Griffin III’s return to the football field, so Cousins will continue to start until Griffin is ready. And even if he is, there’s no guarantee Cousins will give the starting quarterback job back. But, with two games of three or more interceptions and no wins as a starter this year, Cousins could go back riding the pine when RG3 returns. It’s a situation to monitor once RG3 is closer to returning.

Teddy Bridgewater
After the Sunday Night Football contest was over, capping another Sunday of football action, Teddy Bridgewater had thrown for the fourth-fewest passing yards by a starting quarterback (188 passing yards), and tied Kirk Cousins in a league leading three interceptions on the day.

Rookie quarterbacks are going to have growing pains as they adjust to the professional level of football in the NFL, and will have their ups and downs. With games vs. BUF, TB, WAS, and CHI in the next five weeks, Bridgewater will have a couple of opportunities to bounce-back.
