People have no heart. Since Derrick Rose went down with his second major injury in two years, fans of the game started to question his toughness―you know, because guys who’ve dedicated their life to a sport would rather risk their livelihoods by perpetually being on the inactive list.
But injuries tend to happen to even the most hardened bodies. Guys like Marc Gasol—who this XN Sports writer picked up in a few leagues because of his all-around play and because he’s known for his health—aren’t susceptible to misfortune either. Heck, even war tanks like Nikola Vucevic are spraining ankles. (He remains questionable for Tuesday’s game).
So, have a little sympathy for guys whose bodies are currently failing them and work the waiver wire like a true fantasy basketball connoisseur.
Nikola Vucevic (ankle) – See above.
Kobe Bryant (Achilles/Father Time) – Reports have the Black Mamba coming back as early as this Friday. TGIF, everyone.
Andre Iguodala (hamstring) – Don’t count on Iggy playing tonight against the Raptors. There’s also no clear news on his progress and coach Mark Jackson hasn’t made up his mind on whether Iguodala will even travel with the team for their upcoming road trip.
Chandler Parsons (back spasms) – The forward has been playing 2nd round basketball recently even while dealing with back spasms. Those put him out of contention yesterday against the Jazz and could do it again tomorrow versus Phoenix.
J.J. Redick (hand/arm) – Out 5-6 weeks. Take a look at Korver, below, if you need some supplemental shooting and he’s free.
Kyle Korver (rib) – There’s no word on when the long-distance shooter will be back but some project that it could be as soon as the end of this week. He’s worth a pickup once healthy.
Pau Gasol (ankle) – The Barcelona product gets a bad wrap for “being soft” despite being a big man who has battled through all types of injuries. This one makes him probable for Friday’s game.
Deron Williams (ankles) – The once-franchise point guard has played more than 30 minutes in only three games this season and has yet to post anything more than 17 points in any of them. Before the season started, coach Jason Kidd wanted the former All-Star to average double-digit assists but has only posted such in one game. He’s out today and is highly questionable for Thursday.
Zach Randolph (ingrown toenail) – No kidding. Is questionable for today’s duel with the Suns.
Jameer Nelson (foot) – The stocky point guard is dealing with a foot sprain that has kept him out two games. Most likely won’t be active again until Friday.
Toney Douglas (tibia) – Not really a fantasy asset but the Golden State Warrior is nearing a return from a left tibia injury.
Tyson Chandler (right fibula) – Can Chandler return in time to rescue the Knicks’ season? Read more here.
