According to a tweet by MLB Daily Dish writer Chris Cotillo, Doug Fister has been acquired by the Washington Nationals from the Detroit Tigers. There is no word on any other details of the trade at this point. (Update: Tigers will receive Steve Lombardozzi, minor leaguers Robbie Ray and Ian Krol)
In three seasons with the Tigers, Fister put up a win-loss record of 32-20 with an ERA of 3.29 and a WHIP of 1.19.
Fister was not heavily rumored to be moved, but the option had been on the table for Tigers GM David Dombrowski. Most analysts and writers concurred that the more likely candidate for trade was right-handed starter Rick Porcello.
The move opens the door even further for the Tigers to re-sign Max Scherzer. It also bolsters the Nationals starting rotation, Fister being a more than adequate middle-of-the rotation starter during his three year tenure in Detroit.
It is not known yet what the Tigers will receive in turn as the story is in the early stages of development.
